Let's Restock

CBN.com Let me take you down memory lane. Do you remember the nursery rhyme about Old Mother Hubbard? Here are the first familiar words below:

Old Mother Hubbard;
Went to the cupboard,
To give her poor dog a bone;
But when she got there
The cupboard was bare,
And so the poor dog had none.

I was thinking about all the recent news about MSG and began flinging open my cupboards to check labels and throw out dated items. I  know I should look forward to getting rid of those things that harm my body with the wrong ingredients. Although it is easy to jump on the band wagon, the real test will be to consistently check every label every week. Will I choose to buy the healthier items now that I know that MSG is harmful?

The Bible is full of warnings and admonitions. It is all true, pure, and good for the spirit, soul, and body. The Bible is life and health to our bones, but we really need to do what it says. Sometimes reading the Word of God can become like a new fad and at first we get excited about a revelation, then slowly back away as time goes on.

 Why don’t we realize that it isn’t just what we put into our bodies that we should be concerned about but also what we feed our minds? We can not afford to slack off, our soul depends on it.

 What if you thought of your soul as an enormous room and pictured cupboards surrounding those walls?  What is in them? Did you know that your soul is the seat of your mind, will, and emotions? We have to renew our minds daily by putting the word of God in there to replace carnal thinking. Imagine your soul (your mind) being that empty cupboard and restocking it. You simply replace some items that are not good for you and replace them with what is pure and true.

We fear opening the doors because of what may be revealed. It isn’t easy to do an inventory. It takes time and effort, but the results are really worth it in the long run.

We should always be concerned about health issues not just because we want to be free from disease and to perhaps lose weight, but because our bodies are the temple of the Lord.  We are a triune being made up of spirit, soul, and body, and God is interested in the total package of our lives. Let us look at what we are putting in our temples. Let us make sure we take care of it, both physically as well as its spiritual condition.

Your soul’s cupboard may just need to be cleaned out and restocked.

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."  (NIV)

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own."  (NIV)
