Recognize the Signs of the End-Times

THE TIME OF NOAH
The story of Noah has gripped our imaginations for hundreds of years.  Hollywood continues to make movies about it and children’s books are filled with drawings of animals floating in an ark on high waters.  While there is compelling evidence that the ark did exist, the most important testimony to the reality of the Flood comes from Jesus who spoke of it as a real historic event and warned of a similar cataclysm in the last days.  David has always been intrigued by the story of the biblical Flood during Noah’s time as an analogy for the end of days.  Having grown up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, he is very familiar with hurricane winds and rains that wreak havoc on the land.  “The Flood is the clearest model Jesus gave us for understanding the period just before His return,” says David. A big reason why the Flood analogy became so fascinating for him was David’s reluctance to blame every hurricane and earthquake on a people or nation’s particular sin.  “I was always troubled by not only the question of Where was God in the Holocaust? but also, Why did He not judge Germany afterwards?” says David.  “In the days of Noah, God let go of man’s conscience in order to allow sin to ripen to His just judgment, all the while storing up His wrath for our worsening rebelling against Him.”  David believes the same thing is happening today.

Jesus warned that the days before His return would descend into depravity, just as what took place in Noah’s time.  In Matthew 24:36-39, Jesus is clear on the end of days:  But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  Many Christians sense we are living in similar times.  The world is upbeat about the future despite the serious global threats and our steady moral decay.  People no longer believe there are moral absolutes.  “Many believe it is as if evil is mysteriously allowed to prosper, and something irreversible is taking place,” says David.  “I share this sense, too, but am no longer frustrated by it because I have come to realize God may actually be in it.”  He reminds us that God sometimes can be so upset with mankind’s rebellion that He allows people to destroy themselves.  “God is indeed loving and kind, but He is also holy and cannot abide sin,” says David. “His redemptive plan is progressively revealed in Scripture and culminates in the gospel message.”  David also reminds us that when a people absolutely refuses to repent, He frees us up so that the rebellion bound in our hearts can run its course.  “When He finally does show up, we are without excuse and always get what we deserve.”

MODERN REBELLION
Much of humanity wants to be free of any godly standards and has turned to moral relativism.  “Many have lost the fear of God and mock those who still believe in Him,” says David.  “We are arriving at the same place as the pre-Flood world, although by a slightly different path.” Though research shows many are wavering in their Christian faith, David encourages all believers to stick to their convictions.  “There is a glorious future awaiting those who stay faithful to God,” he reminds us.  “Just as God preserved a righteous remnant in the days of Noah to make a new start, He will do the same with us today to prepare us for eternity!”

David says there is one element for the Flood paradigm to be complete.  The ark was a clear, visible warning to repent or perish.  He is convinced that the building up of Zion, the modern-day restoration of Israel, is the clearest sign to all the world that we are about to be judged. “We need to continue to be salt and light,” says David.  “My final prayer is that we would all heed the sure warning…that the floodgates of God’s wrath are soon to open!”
