Bible Verses about Easter

Though the word Easter is not mentioned in the Bible, many verses point to the central truth of Easter, Resurrection: Christ rose from the grave! After his resurrection, he went to heaven, where he sits at the right hand of God the Father and intercedes for us, so that we may also go to heaven when we die on earth.

Bible Verses about What Happened Friday after Jesus Died on the Cross

As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus, went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left. Both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting across from the tomb and watching. , NLT

Bible Verses about the Time and Place of the Resurrection

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightening, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. , NLT

Bible Verses about What Happened that Sunday

Then the angel spoke to the women. Don’t be afraid! He said. “I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.” The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message. , NLT

Bible Verses about What the Apostle Peter Later Said about Resurrection

“God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand.” Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” ; 37-39, NLT

Bible Verses that Explain Why Christians have Faith in Eternal Life (Resurrection after Death)

But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all which have died. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22, NLT

Christians around the world celebrate Easter on a Sunday morning (their Sabbath) because that was the day Jesus rose from death (on the third day after his death). Christian faith is based on the promise that followers of Christ will follow him to heaven.
