John Legend Releases New Song Based on Famous Bible Passage

Grammy-award-winning artist, John Legend, released a new song on Feb. 15, based off of a passage from the book of Matthew.

The artist shared a teaser video to his Instagram page last week, captioned, “#CantJustPreach,” hinting at the context of the song

The video, narrated by Legend, says, “I grew up in the church and one of the things we talked about was loving our neighbors as we love ourselves.”

The Scripture Legend was referencing is Matthew 22:37-40, which reads:

“‘Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.'”

Two days later, Legend shared another video to his Instagram feed, using the same caption, “#CantJustPreach.” The video features a soundbite from his new song.
