A retired teacher has set a new world record for the 100-meter dash, a week after celebrating her 100th birthday.

Ella Mae Colbert shattered the current world record for 100-year-old runners, previously recorded at 1 minute and 17 seconds.

During her first attempt to break the record the middle school volunteer fell and scrapped her chin, but that didn't stop her from finishing the race.

She brushed herself off, put a bandage over her wound and crossed the finish line in 46.791 seconds.

The South Carolina crowd cheered "Ella Mae" through the entire sprint.

Colbert is no stranger to track. She has been running since high school and she said her three-mile runs with her niece and nephew keep her active.

She also said there is not secret to living to be 100.

"I don't know what it is except God's goodness," she said.

Officials with Medallion Athletics recorded Colbert's race, and her nephew applied to the Guinness Book of World Records to make sure her accomplishment is honored.
