Egypt's administrative court has dissolved the Freedom and Justice Party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, and ordered its assets liquidated, according to the state news agency.

The court's decision effectively bans members of the Muslim Brotherhood from participating in parliamentary elections later this year.

Last December, the government labeled the Brotherhood a terrorist organization.

The court based its latest ruling on a recommendation by its advisory panel, which said the group's political leaders had already been accused, and some convicted of murder and inciting violence.

The court's decision is part of a wider crackdown against the Brotherhood and its members.

Under President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi, elected last May by a substantial majority, thousands of Muslim Brotherhood members have been jailed and many sentenced to death on charges of murder and inciting violence.
