Al Qaeda Breaks Ties with Syria Rebel Group

Al Qaeda's announced it's breaking off ties from one of the most powerful rebel groups in Syria.

According to a statement by the terror network, the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, disobeyed orders from al Qaeda's leadership.

The groups founder, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was ordered to remain the head of al Qaeda's branch in Iraq.

Instead he founded the Islamic State and became a powerful force in Syria's conflict.

Al Qaeda's general command announced today that it has "no connection" with the Islamic State.

He underlined that the group "is not a branch of the al-Qaeda organization" and said al-Qaeda "is not responsible for its actions."
