Media Report: Networks 'Silent' on Middle East Christian Genocide

More than 30 Christian and conservative leaders are urging the media to cover the genocide against Christians in the Middle East.

The Media Research Center drafted a letter asking media outlets to expose ISIS and their murderous acts, as well as the humanitarian and religious crisis that is happening in the Middle East.

"Islamic terrorists have tortured, beheaded, crucified or burned alive priests, nuns and worshippers alike," they wrote.

A recent study from the group showed a major lack of coverage from major networks like ABC, NBC and CBS.

It shows that these networks have used the word "genocide" only six times out of the "underwhelming 60 references to Christian persecution over the last two years."

Many Christian groups have documented the attacks of Islamic terrorist. In some cases entire Christian neighborhoods and villages have been wiped out.

"ISIS has desecrated hundreds of churches and destroyed ancient Christian holy sites in acts of 'cultural cleansing,'" the letter said.

The Obama administration, after months of delay, finally labeled the ethnic cleansing of Christians by ISIS as genocide during a statement by Secretary of State John Kerry in March of this year.  Even following that, CBS News didn't report it, according to the MRC.

Network reporters should have been able to "connect the dots" from their own stories to determine what was happening to Christians.

"Christians have been murdered — often mass murders — in a dozen countries," it continued. "Families are routinely broken up and women are forced into sexual slavery. Stunningly, almost none of it has made the evening news broadcasts, and the networks almost never called what it is: genocide."
