A gunfight in Somalia with the Islamic terrorist group al-Shabab left one Navy SEAL dead and two other U.S. service members injured, U.S. defense officials told CBN News.

Officials say the U.S. service members were wrapping up an operation with Somali commandos to target an al-Shabab leader.

U.S. helicopters dropped the U.S. and Somali forces in Somalia, about 40 miles west of Mogadishu. But before the group reached its target, it came under heavy fire.

The U.S. soldiers were rushed to a nearby hospital, but one later died of his injuries.

Officials say all of the al-Shabab fighters were killed.
