Inner City Church Adapts to Changing Culture and Thrives

St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church in Philadelphia saw its Mount Airy neighborhood change from half Jewish/half Catholic in the 1960's and 70's to 100 percent African American today. To keep its doors open as the neighborhood demographic changed, the Catholic parish needed to convince its neighbors that St. Raymond could meet their spiritual needs. It did that not by changing its theology, but by changing its culture.
