'Preparing for the Unthinkable': Disaster Ministry Designed as 'Spiritual First Aid' to Help People, Communities Recover

In this season of COVID-19, many people are suffering from the effects of the pandemic, and local churches are trying to help them with what's known as the Disaster Ministry -- a ministry that's been reaching out to people in crisis for years.

They've developed something called "spiritual first aid" to connect people one-on-one and to also meet their needs.

Dr. Jamie Aten, executive director of the Humanitarian Disaster Institute at Wheaton College, wrote a book designed to help those in the ministry titled The Disaster Ministry Handbook.

Aten appeared on the Monday afternoon edition of CBN's Newswatch to explain how spiritual first aid works.

Newswatch is seen weekdays on the CBN News Channel. For a programming schedule, click here.
