From Two-Time Loser to Winning Success

“I was broke as a goat,” says John Hay.

Like the Texan he is, John doesn’t mince words. He’s been to the bottom and back, and he’s honest about it.

“I was chasing my own tail, thinking I was getting ahead, to find out there was a dead end road everywhere I went,” he says.

John’s life was filled with rough roads. He spent his time abusing drugs and alcohol, running from the law, and getting locked up.

“I saw a lot of attorneys,” he says. "I lost everything I owned. Twice, I lost everything. I was thinking that the only way out was suicide.”

But along the way God intervened in John’s life.

“He started showing me out of the darkness, that’s when it started turning, and then it was a long road,” he says.

It was down this long road where John met a man who gave him a job in his sign business.

“When it was all said and done they had paid me a couple hundred dollars,” John says. “I had nothing, and I thought I was on top of the world.”

John was so good that within a few weeks he started his own company. His faith in God grew along with his business. But his business really got going when John learned how to give.

“I began to give when it hurt, when it didn’t make any sense,” he says. “If I made one hundred dollars, I was told I should give ten dollars of that. So when I’d go to church I’d give the ten dollars. Within a day or so, the phone would ring. I’d have a job that would be worth ten times that.”

John became a sought after sign artist in the Fort Worth–Dallas area. He’s done large jobs and small, but no matter what he has been paid, he has always given back to God.

“I learned through God as He showed me how to make it a habit, and I’ve been a tither for many years now,” John says.

“God has taken a hard heart and broken it all down. As I would see certain people hurting in certain places, I would want to be a part of it. I wanted to try to help people.”

That’s when John decided to partner with The 700 Club.

“This ministry is doing the will of God. I wanted to be a part of it,” John says. “When you get in on God’s plan you aren’t going to come up a loser.”

And John is certainly not a loser. In fact, he owns his 52-acre ranch free and clear. He spends his time rebuilding Corvettes and riding his Harley. John has watched his life go from the worst condition to the success he is today, and he knows why.

“God will just show you,” he says. "It’s as if God says, ‘I own a thousand cattle on a thousand hills, and I’m just making sure you want to be a part of the rodeo here.’”

John discovered a powerful truth from God’s Word. Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (NIV)
