When Loss Becomes Gain

Carl and Ruth Lund of Ohio have been married for over 40 years. Since day one farming has been a way of life.

“It’s an area that’s totally dependent upon God. We prepare the soil as He prepares us. We plant those seeds; He’ll do the watering,” says Carl.

The Lunds have always been faithful tithers and CBN partners.

“God wants us to plant our seeds in fertile ground. There’s no doubt in my mind that CBN and The 700 Club are fertile ground,” says Carl.

The values of giving and serving were ingrained early on. In fact, Lund View Farm was passed down to Carl by his father and grandfather. It’s always been the family’s only source of income. Late one night in 2005 something happened that threatened to close the farm permanently.

“There was a person laying on their horn out in the driveway, and he wouldn’t go away. Immediately we got up, and he said there’s a fire at the milk house,” explains Carl.

The fire destroyed the barn. Now the Lunds had another problem: what to do with 40 homeless cows!

“A friend of ours in New London had just sold his herd. He said, ‘Just bring your cows over and you don’t even have to worry about it,’” says Carl.

Now they had an even bigger concern. With no way to milk their cows, how would the Lunds earn money during the time it took to rebuild the barn?

“A friend from church said, ‘I know you’re going to be in financial need. Here’s $4000,’” says Carl.

That same day their neighbors asked if they could clean up the rubble.

“In a period of three hours they had the whole mess cleaned up,” says Carl.

Less than 24 hours after the fire the Lord not only provided housing for the herd and a cleaning crew, but money just kept pouring in!

Even though the Lunds were surprised by the generosity of their friends and neighbors, they believe that the Lord was living up to His promise.

“He’s in control and that’s so great,” says Ruth.

“We can equate [this] with Luke 6:38 in terms of, “Give and it shall be given unto you -- heaped up, pressed down until it’s pouring over,” adds Carl.

Today, God has completely restored Lund View Farm, and Ruth and Carl are back to work. They understand, both figuratively and literally, the concept of sewing in order to reap a great harvest!

“As we wake up and the sun is shining and there’s a gentle breeze in the air, there’s nothing God can’t do,” says Carl.

Carl and Ruth are living proof that God lives up to His promises. They were obedient to God’s word by sowing into His Kingdom, and the Lord gave back a multitude of blessings.
