Acting on a Mustard Seed of Faith
“I began to have coughing spells, uncontrollable coughing spells, and they would come several times a day,” says Maxine Ramey. “It took about an hour every night to cough and kind of get cleared up enough so that I could settle and go to sleep. There were times that I would cough up blood and, you know, that was pretty scary.”
Maxine continued, “It was troubling, so I went to ENTs, several doctors to try to find out what's causing the coughing. I finally did wind up at the pulmonologist. Her diagnosis for me was bronchiectasis, which is a condition in your lungs. And it just builds up in your passageways and causes a great deal of coughing. And she said, 'I'll just tell you there's no cure.'”
“There were some tears, but I also was filled with gratitude toward that doctor for giving me a diagnosis because I had gone for several years just wondering what's wrong. And I said, ‘Well, I want to tell you that I believe in healing and I believe and trust that the Lord will heal me from this.’ I just have a firm faith that God's Word is true, that His promises are for us today, His healing promises.”
“I used the nebulizer twice a day. It's a machine that is supposed to help you be able to clear out some of that. My husband hated that nebulizer machine so badly. And he said, ‘We are not going to have this. This is not the rest of your life. God is going to heal you.’ So he prayed so hard for me. He's such a selfless person. And when something's out of his control, you know, it's hard for him. But he took it to the Lord. He prayed fervently.”
While Maxine waited on God, she said, “There's a scripture in Exodus that says, 'Worship the Lord your God, and I will bless your food and your water, and I will take sickness away from the midst of you.' So after about a year of using the nebulizer machine, I just got down on my knees one day and determined to just worship the Lord. And I just worshiped for so long and I just had so much love in my heart for God. And I just poured that out on Him. And I just asked Him to honor my husband's prayer.”
To Maxine's delight, she recalled, “And at that moment, I just felt in my spirit, God's presence so strongly and His power. And I knew that I was healed. And I got up and went and told my husband, ‘I know that I'm healed.’ From that moment, I never had another coughing spell. And that has been over a year now. I laid down that night in the bed and went to sleep without one cough and I have not coughed one night since then.”
Having followed up with her doctor, Maxine said, “So I had a follow up appointment with my pulmonologist about a month after I was healed, and I was so excited to go back to her, and she listened intently and she was very happy. She listened to my lungs and they were clear. She said, ‘You sound great.’ And she said, ‘But I want to see you back in six months.’ She said, ‘If you continue to do this, well, then I'll agree that you're healed.’ In September, I went back and I said, ‘Guess what? I'm still healed.’ And she listened again to my lungs and she hugged me and she said, ‘I release you. You don't need me anymore!’ There's nothing that we can do to be worthy of healing. ‘It's not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord.’ It's just trusting, worshiping, believing, laying it at the cross. Nothing we can do but to stand on His promises. And there's nothing more that we need to do.”
An Opportunity She Couldn’t Pass Up
“My name is Synthia. I am twenty two years old. I have been sewing for two to three years. I enjoy it. I can sit here all day doing it, especially kids' clothes.” - Synthia
Before moving to Nairobi, she grew up in a rural part of Kenya.
“My mother is a farmer. I used to sell bananas. The education there was not that good. Because of health challenges, I couldn't perform at my best level.” Synthia
Bad living conditions eventually caused her to contract typhoid like symptoms. But then she was invited to a ministry supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise called Our Home. Here children are given everything they need to thrive, including a quality education and resources for their future success. Synthia recovered from her illness and excelled in her studies.
“I had a dream that one day I’ll go to Niarobi, so when the opportunity came I knew that my dream was coming true. Staying at Our Home was a very good impact. I learned to be responsible at Our Home. Mum Ruth, really instilled responsibility in us. For the first time I saw her, I just told myself, "This is a mum." I got to know God on a deeper level. Every Sunday, we would go to church, and then we came back home, and did devotions. We were asked to speak up in front of people, and that gave me a lot of courage.” - Synthia
She also learned that God gave her the gift of sowing. We paid for her college courses in design and tailoring. Now as a seamstress she makes enough to rent an apartment and help others. She regularly visits the children at our home and uses her skills to make clothes for them.
“So, Synthia, I have been in children's homes before, but these children are so happy and they're dressed so beautifully. I'm stunned to learn that you made all of those clothes. You studied this.” - Terry
“In school, you are taught to use patterns. But as you go outside and work with people, you learn to use free hand. What really helped me to become as good as I am is my teacher back in college. She really encouraged me. And the advantage I had was the children here at Our Home. I felt so good when I saw them wearing what I had created. In class, when people would want to make clothes for children, they would call me because I was like an expert.” - Synthia
“What does that make you feel, obviously, there's a creative gene in you that's amazing.” – Terry
“I always feel very, very blessed. My biggest happiness is the kids. I love seeing them smart. That's my vision, to always make them smart.” - Synthia
“I can tell they know they look good. Yeah. That's because of you. Wow. What a wonderful gift.” - Terry
“Actually what motivated me the most is when you grow up at Our Home, you see people blessing you, you keep receiving blessings. You receive, and you also learn to give. I give, and I chose to give to Our Home.” - Synthia
“Synthia has a gift, she could take that gift and run with it. Synthia is here giving back to
the place that gave to her. She's only twenty two and knows the value of that. Don’t have to say more.” - Terry
“I want to say a big thank you to Orphan's Promise for the support I received because getting that kind of support is rare. I thank God I came. It's by God's grace. I pray that one day I can also have the same kind of heart that you have of supporting orphans and vulnerable children.” Synthia

God is Faithful to His Promise for Baby Girl
“She said to me, you know, ‘Do you, do you see how Mila is so tightly bound? There's no black around her.’” On May 6th, 2020, at 18-weeks pregnant, Ashleigh Rulle couldn’t believe what the ultrasound technician was telling her. She had thought everything was going to be fine. Ashleigh recalls, “She said, ‘We should be seeing, you know, more black. That would be fluid.' She said, ‘You know, I think there might be a problem here.’”
It had been a long two years for Ashleigh and her husband, Travis. After having their first child, a boy, in 2017, they had trouble getting pregnant again. Throughout that time, Ashleigh clung to a vision she believes God gave her. She says, “I was praying specifically for a little girl named Mila. I was coming to God with a pure heart and trusting Him with that desire and believing that He himself had placed that desire on my heart.”
Finally, in January of 2020 she got pregnant through in vitro fertilization. She recalls, “I was so excited. I was barely containing myself.” Travis Rulle says, “It was amazing. It was a very emotional day, very excited.”
Then, at eight and a half weeks, Ashleigh started bleeding. Diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma -- common for in vitro pregnancies – she was put on bed rest. While the doctor expected it to resolve, Ashleigh called on everyone she knew to pray. She says, “No part of me wanted to utter the word miscarriage. It was all I could do to stay strong and and pray for God to, to carry Mila through, carry me through, give me the strength I needed.”
Travis recalls, “I didn't wallow necessarily in the what ifs. It was just a moment of just me and God just talking and begging, uh, for Him to help and His intervention and guidance.” After a couple weeks the hematoma did resolve, and everything seemed fine. Then, another complication. At her 18-week ultrasound on May 6th, Ashleigh’s doctor discovered her amniotic sac had ruptured, and her fluid was dangerously low. Ashleigh recalls, “She said, ‘You know, Ashley, this is not a viable pregnancy. Mila doesn't have enough amniotic fluid to practice breathing, so her lungs aren't gonna fully develop. She's gonna suffocate, you know, that this pregnancy is a choice now. It's not safe for you. It's not safe for Mila.'”
It was then the doctor encouraged her to abort Mila. Ashleigh said a quick prayer and started to respond. She says the words that came out weren’t her own. She says, “God just completely came over me, spoke through me, and gave me just this grace. He said to the doctor through me, ‘I begged God for this baby. I prayed for this baby, and I've seen her.’”
In absolute faith, Ashleigh refused to terminate the pregnancy. She says, “Truly, I was angry. I was aggravated. I'm listening to somebody tell me this about my daughter, my child, while I'm looking at their heart beating on a screen. How can someone tell me this about my child, when to me they're viable.” Her doctor said the next five weeks were critical. Ashley went on bed rest while family and friends continued to intercede for Mila’s life.
Travis recalls, “We were very specific, day by day, milestone by milestone, being very specific to the progress of Mila. It was this amazing just ripple effect of just prayer, and you could almost feel it.” As Ashleigh prayed, she clung to God’s promise that she was not alone. She recalls, “I came across the verses, Luke 1:45. ‘Blessed is she who believed there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.’ I would say in my mind, for You have not forsaken me. And I would repeat that, that's where I found a lot of my strength.”
At 23 weeks, Ashleigh’s amniotic fluid was still low, and she was admitted to the hospital. Doctors put her on antibiotics and steroids to help Mila’s development. Doctors were unsure if she would fully develop, even if she made it full term. Ashleigh recalls, “I was not worried at any time that Mila was gonna have any deformities or abnormalities. I felt and knew that God had promised me a healthy baby.”
Doctors expected Ashleigh to finish the remaining 10 to 12 weeks of her pregnancy in the hospital. However, a week and a half after being admitted, Ashleigh got a miraculous gift…. It was on her 33rd birthday. She recalls, “I had an ultrasound, which revealed that I had normal amniotic fluid levels. So, there was no reason to keep me in the hospital. Getting to go home on my birthday and share that joy, increased not only my faith, but you know, these, all of these other people, their faith to, it felt like the ultimate gift from God. You know, I just kept seeing in my mind, 'Ashley, God is for you. He's for you.'” Travis says, “I was just praising God. I was crying. It just felt like something that was so impossible."
Once home, Ashleigh continued bed rest and carried Mila to full term. Then on August 30th, 2020, Mila was born. Ashleigh recalls, “When they put her in my arms, I just shouted. It was just, 'Thank you, God.'” Travis says, “It was one of the greatest, greatest gifts and greatest moments of my life.”
While Mila had a couple minor issues, they were easily corrected in her first few months of life. Today, she is healthy and full of joy. Travis and Ashleigh believe she is a walking testament to God’s faithfulness and love. Travis says, “It taught me that things that seem impossible here are possible with Him. And to lean on Him.” Ashleigh says, “I fully trust my doctors and I believe them but I serve a God who's supernatural. I came to God with desperate faith, and I know it was that desperate faith that pleased Him.”
Superbook Teaches Nadi Lin to Pray
In the heart of Myanmar, a young girl named Nadi Lin faced challenges that many children encounter. At 13 years old, she struggled with listening and showed little interest in Sunday school. However, Nadi Lin's life took a remarkable turn when she was introduced to Superbook, an animated series that brings the stories of the Bible to life.
As Nadi Lin began to engage with the Superbook lessons, her behavior started to change. She became calmer and more attentive, listening to the lessons with genuine interest. Through Superbook, Nadi Lin found a new way to connect with the Word of God and experience Jesus's love in a profound and personal way. She started praying, not just for herself, but also for her family members. Her transformation was evident to everyone around her.
One of the most touching moments in Nadi Lin's journey was when her younger brother fell ill. Instead of feeling helpless, she took him to her teachers and asked them to pray for him. She also prayed for her brother herself, and to everyone's amazement, he recovered very soon. This experience strengthened her faith and demonstrated the power of prayer. “I believed in Jesus and thank Him so much,” she said with a heartfelt smile.
Nadi Lin’s journey didn’t stop there. As she continued to learn from Superbook, she encountered the story of Jacob and Esau. This lesson had a profound impact on her. She began to understand the importance of forgiveness. In situations where she might have previously quarreled with others, she now chose to forgive and show kindness.
Superbook's global reach is evident in stories like Nadi Lin's. It shows how the ministry can bring hope and transformation to children and families around the world, regardless of their cultural or regional backgrounds.
We invite you to join this mission. Your support can help extend the impact of Superbook to even more children and families. Whether through donations via the link below, sharing this story, or accessing Superbook resources for your own family, you can be a part of this incredible journey of faith and transformation. Together, we can bring the stories of the Bible to life and inspire a new generation to experience the love of Jesus.
