In Safe Hands

Share This Devotional

I kept watch over my loved one all night. My family was in the hospital for 10 days about a year ago. The first night there, I could only sleep for about 30 minutes in the hospital room recliner, and then it became someone else’s turn to attempt to sleep. I sat in a backless computer chair near the hospital bed and watched my loved one breathe in and out as he slept. I watched and prayed.

The next day, I knew that I needed to go home and sleep if I was going to function at all and be useful. But I didn’t want to leave the hospital. I cringed at the thought of something happening while I was gone. As I stood in front of the Coke machine to get my family some drinks, I prayed. I asked God if it would be OK to go home.

A whispered thought came across my mind, and it was God speaking. He said, “He’s in safe hands.” I knew the hospital was giving excellent care, but I also knew that God was talking about His hands. We would all be safe in His hands.

This Christmas season, we want our family and friends to be safe and healthy. We long for peace on earth and peace in our souls. But reality shows us that we live in a world full of suffering, wars, and tragedy. Yet Jesus promises us His peace.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;

not as the world gives do I give to you.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

( NKJV)

Trusting Jesus activates His peace in our lives. His peace is always available to us, but we have to accept it. When we depend on Jesus’ power, love, and wisdom, we can walk in peace that He is with us and will help us in every aspect of our lives. He doesn’t give us the world’s quality of peace, but His own. Steadfast, enduring, calming, and strengthening. This is the peace of Christ.

In the challenges and uncertainties of life, may you find in Jesus the peace that “surpasses all understanding” ( NKJV). We can have peace because Jesus has promised it and given it. We can have hope because we serve a God of miracles and love. We can rest in His plan and provision because He is good and does good. Find peace in the hands of God. You’re safe in His hands.
