God Answered Her Faith in a Big Way

“Who’s going to be there to take care of my children, you know? It was really scary for me.”

A single mother of 11-year-old twins, Martha Moore couldn’t imagine what might happen if she lost her job. She had been supporting them as a mail processing clerk for the Sacramento post office. Then in June 2020, she noticed something was wrong.

“I started getting this excruciating pain in my hands, and it was a pain that I never felt before. It was like someone was sticking needles in my hands. I couldn’t sleep because the pain was so bad. When it started happening, I took some Motrin, to try to see if that would help, but it wasn’t helping.”

It wasn’t long before the pain got worse.

“I got to a point where I started feeling the pain at work. Because over time I was lifting more stuff at work, especially during the holiday season because that’s when our mail picks up more.”

So, a couple of weeks later, Martha went to her doctor, who diagnosed her with carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists.

“They gave me medicine for the inflammation, and then they also recommended that I wear hand braces because they told me that would keep my hands in a certain position and relieve me from moving my hands when I’m asleep.”

That worked for a couple of weeks and then the pain was back. Martha’s doctor had one last suggestion.

“He said he could recommend me to a specialist and surgery would be the next option for me. They would have to go inside my hands and remove certain nerves from my hands.”

Martha didn’t know how she would recover--physically or financially-- from an expensive surgery.

‘“I was scared out of my mind. I didn’t want to face the fact that I would have to literally go to surgery, be put under, because I have two small children still at home and I’m their sole parent and provider. That really took a toll on me. I know there’s times where people go to surgeries, and they get put under and they don’t wake up. I was thinking, ‘Who’s going to be there to take care of my children?' It was really scary for me."

Martha prayed and talked to God about her fears.

“‘I said, ‘Lord, how am I going to provide for my children? You know, my hands are what I need to be able to provide for my children and work. My hands are acting up on me real bad, and I need my hands. I know it’s your will for me to do these things, so I’m standing on your promises and trusting in you that you’re going to heal my hands.’”

As summer faded into fall, Martha was put on light duty. She worked through the sometimes excruciating pain as she continued to pray.

"I was going in front of the prayer lines and asking for healing and agreement for my healing. I was discouraged and I didn’t understand what was going on because I was standing on scriptures. But then I kept at it. I said, ‘I’m not going to let this get me down. I know the Lord is a healing God.'"

Then, on October 1st, 2020, Martha says she heard from God directly.

“I was getting ready to go to bed, and I was about to put my braces on like I do every other night and I heard him tell me, ‘Don’t wear them.’ I knew it was Him telling me, 'Don’t wear the braces.' I was relying, believing, and trusting at first in them.’"

Even though she was surprised, Martha didn’t hesitate to obey. To her amazement, she was able to fall asleep easily.

“I had no pain in my hands or anything. That was the best sleep I’d had in a long time!” And that wasn’t all…

‘“When I woke up the next morning, I heard him tell me, ‘Throw them away.’”

So, she did! Since that time, Martha is completely pain free and back to her regular duties at work. She’s also resting easy knowing God has taken care of her needs.

“He healed me in my sleep. That’s all I know. I sleep really good! I sleep good every night and when I’m at work, I can do my job without any type of pain or flair-ups.”

Martha wants to encourage others to have faith that God still hears and answers prayers.

“I’m so thankful and grateful that the Lord heard my prayers. It took my faith to a whole new level. He really does care about every aspect of our lives and he doesn’t like to see us in pain. God truly is amazing. You can trust and believe in His word because he’s faithful even when we’re not faithful. Prayer really does work, and prayer really does change things!”
