A Lifeline for Hungry Families in Texas

While some parts of the country are getting back to normal, many families still rely on their local food bank. In Irving, Texas, Operation Blessing partner Agape Connect is doing all they can to help families cope with the pandemic.

Michelle said, “A lot of people during COVID are really still struggling. When COVID had hit my job, I had lost my job as well, but Operation Blessing helped me during my challenging times during COVID, just by having the necessary things that I needed.”

Executive Director, Gerson Hernandez, said, “So, our average is about two to three hundred vehicles per distribution. So, we might end up seeing anywhere from four hundred to six hundred plus individuals come through our line. Families that are still hurting financially. Families that are still being impacted because of what COVID has done to us.”

Manuel said, “I’m married. I got two kids. I have been in that position before. I choose to either feed my family or pay my bills.”

Thanks to Operation Blessing partners, families are getting the help they need to feed their children. At many distribution sites, people drive through and have food placed directly into their cars.

Gerson said, “While all the pantries shut down mostly in Irving, our church stayed open, because we still had resources that we could provide to our community; and we wouldn’t be able to serve, Agape wouldn't be able to be where it is today without the help and the support of folks at Operation Blessing.”

“Thank you, Operation Blessing, for being there providing me and my family some food, especially the kids,” said Manuel. “They do greatly appreciate it. We thank you for everything.”
