The Sound of Success...

...is silence.

February 2, 2008 - Something in Baghdad didn't blow up. And one man, at least, is very thankful.

Soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division thwarted an attempt to kill a leader of the nascent Concerned Local Citizens movement in Baghdad's Doura neigborhood on Saturday.

A tip led the soldiers to find a bomb which had been placed beneath the CLC leader's car. You'll see more of this kind of thing in the days ahead because the CLC movement scares Al Qaeda to death.

"We believe that al-Qaeda is targeting the CLCs because of theireffectiveness in helping us disrupt anti-Coalition activities in theRashid District," said Maj. Kirk Luedeke, Task Force Dragon spokesman.

"We are proud of their courage and of the work they are doing in helping secure the district."

However, the cowardly terrorists who attempted this assassination still haven't learned that every time they kill an Iraqi, they damage their own reputation that much further with the people, and make the option of cooperating with the U.S. to rid the country of AQI look even more appealing.

There is more fighting and dying to be done in Iraq. But the Iraqis are stepping up and taking ownership of their future - by putting their own lives on the line.

But it's not likely you'll hear about this thwarted assassination attempt on the News. So thanks to the Multi-National Division - Iraq press office, we can find a little balance by continuing to post positive stories from the Global War on Terror.
