President Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates are getting some pushback on the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy" from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid wants to see a battle plan from both of them. The fact that the leading Senate Democrat sent a letter to the administration about this signals that gay interest groups are getting antsy. Key quotes below:
Actor Dennis Hopper went to a NY hospital yesterday with flu-like symptoms. No one knows if such symptoms mean swine flu or not -- unless he has a specific test for H1N1. In most cases, it's not a flu for which there are any vaccines. And the swine flu shots are not even out yet.
We've reached a point where Google this morning had over 400 stories on Hopper's situation. Why is this news? If any famous actor who goes into the hospital starts gathering that much attention, we will be flooded with entertainment health news.
"In God We Trust" is back in business at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. When it opened in December of 2008, those words were not engraved anywhere. The Congressional Prayer Caucus was able to pass legislation to make sure those words were added and voila! See the picture below:
Rep. Randy Forbes of Virginia says the following:
After a meeting between Pro-Life Democrat Bart Stupak and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over abortion coverage in the House health care reform bill, it does not appear that the Speaker of the House is going to budge much. A Democratic Aide close to the process tells The Brody File the following about what transpired at the meeting:
CBN News top notch producer Dana Ritter caught up with Senator Orrin Hatch on the hill after his abortion amendments were defeated in the Senate Finance Committee. Some of his comments are transcribed below:
Senator Orrin Hatch: "The vast majority of people in this country, even pro-choice people or pro-abortion people, do not believe taxpayers should have to pay for the abortions of others."
I grew up in the height of the Charismatic Movement where the "End Times" were always "at hand". That was nearly 40 years ago, and while these Christians were no doubt sincere, they were all wrong -- Jesus did not come back in the 1970s or '80s. Now we are hearing a growing chorus of voices saying that the world is going to end in 2012. We'll see.
Let's say you decide not purchase health insurance. Could you go to jail? Well, the way the Senate Finance Committee bill is set up now there would be a $1,900 fine if you didn't buy health insurance. But what if you didn't pay the fine? You may be looking at the following scenario below:
The Senate Finance Committee voted down the main "Public Option" amendment Tuesday. 15 Senators voted "NO". 8 voted "Yes".
As you might imagine, all the Republicans voted no on the amendment but would you like to know the Democrats on the committee thate voted no?
They were as follows:
Max Baucus
Kent Conrad
Blanche Lincoln
