Riot Video of the Week: Olympic Ticket Line Triumphs and Trials

What do you get when you put 50,000 fans in line for Olympic tickets?  Pushing, shoving, and very few behaviors that you would want in a "harmonious society."

With only 820,000 tickets remaining at several locations throughout the country, this was the last opportunity for Chinese to buy tickets for their favorite sports.  Some of the hottest tickets included the diving finals, gymnastics events, and hurdles, where Chinese will cheer on the beloved Liu Xiang.

Tens of thousands waited in night for more than two nights to win a chance to be part of Beijing's most exciting event, and with each person only allowed to purchase two tickets apiece, the long lines for Beijing's remaining 250,000 tickets are understandable.  Unfortunately for some, the intensity of the crowd caused some more aggressive people to push to the front of the line so they received tickets over others who waited in line.

Even though 75% of the seven million Olympic tickets went to China, many aspiring Olympic attendees weren't able to get tickets.  Even getting tickets from scalpers might be more difficult this year, since people caught scalping tickets will have to spend 10 to 15 days in jail.

Police have already detained 60 scalping suspects, but that hasn't stopped the sale of online Olympic tickets for those who are willing to pay.

Perhaps the Olympic ticket commotion is an appropriate test for Olympic fans, since the fastest and strongest fans were able to beat out the competition to get tickets.  But if Chinese fans show half as much intensity while watching the Games as they do in line for tickets, this could be the most exciting Olympics ever.
