A month from now the world will revisit the timeless story of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish nobleman bent on revenge after being falsely accused and sentenced to a slave ship.

Paramount and MGM Pictures have partnered up with Executive Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey (The Bible miniseries) to bring Ben-Hur to a new generation. And the timing of this remake, with its message of forgiveness, couldn't be better.

"The 1959 Ben-Hur is not just a film, it’s a phenomenon that greatly affected the culture of the 20th century," Director Timur Bekmambetov explains. “That’s why when I was offered to direct its reincarnation, my initial thought was ‘absolutely not.’ Luckily producer Sean Daniel persuaded me to read the script, which turned out to be this incredibly meaningful story, impressing with not just sensational action but with line-up of amazing life-like characters and deep thinking. Even though the setting and the circumstances are thousands of years ago, the characters' emotions and actions are relatable and have a modern, universal resonance.”

Ben-Hur stars British actors Jack Huston as Judah, Toby Kebbell as his adopted brother, Messala, and Nazanin Boniadi as Esther. Morgan Freeman joined the cast as Sheik Ilderim, along with Rodrigo Santoro as Jesus. It was filmed in Italy, features an intense chariot race (in which the two stars, Huston and Kebbell, did most of their own stunts), and offers a message of hope through forgiveness and the words of Jesus Christ. It's going to be one to see!

It hits theaters nationwide on August 19, 2016, and is rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and disturbing images.
