What Bush Should Know about Mahmoud Abbas

01-25-2008

Two weeks ago, President George Bush visited Israel and the Palestinian territories. Both in Jerusalem and Ramallah, he called for "two states living side by side in peace and security."

It's a high-minded goal but is it realistic? Some believe it's not because Bush's rhetoric does not reflect the reality on the ground.

We talked to Itamar Marcus, the director of the Palestinian Media Watch. This organization continually monitors the official media of the Palestinian Authority, which is directly controlled by the office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Marcus says while Abbas talks in English and with President Bush about a two-state solution, his official media tells and paints a very different picture. He explains why in this excerpt from his interview.

You can see more examples of what Marcus is talking about at Palestinian Media Watch.
