The age-old discipline of fasting, or the curbing of our appetites might be the first step in the purification of our desires.

Here's a question for you: Why did Tea Party candidates Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Ron Johnson win and why did Sharron Angle, Christine O'Donnell and (possibly) Joe Miller lose? The answer is very simple: it's all about the messenger.

The lesson for the Tea Party is that their commonsense message can work if it is articulated well and they run candidates who don't have major flaws. Marco Rubio and Rand Paul won because they were able to convey the Tea Party message to Independents in a clear, concise, commonsense way.

If you were a "pro-life" Democrat who voted for President Obama's healthcare bill, then Tuesday was not a good day for you. The Brody File will provide free bottles of Excedrin for you.

The Susan B. Anthony List targeted 20 of these "pro-life" Democrats and 15 of them lost. Ouch!

Lesson: If you say you're pro-life, vote pro-life. These candidates said they were voting pro-life but clearly their constituents disagreed.

So how will the midterm election earthquake shake things up in Washington?

First of all, you will see a move to repeal healthcare bit by bit at the appropriations level in the House. Don't expect any grand moves. Let's be sensible here.

Speaker of the House in waiting John Boehner is promising to run a Congress that's more humble than the current leadership.  Here's a letter he sent to members and members-elect Thursday.

Dear House Republican Colleague,

The statement made by the American people this week was a repudiation of Washington; a repudiation of Big Government; a repudiation of politicians who refuse to listen to the American people. The people have been clear: the job-killing spending binge in Washington must end, and Congress must change.

If President Obama pivots and is able to become more moderate in the next two years of his administration then he has a decent chance at winning a second term. If not, then as they say in basketball, it’s very likely "One and done."

President Obama could easily become a one-term President if he truly doesn't get the fact that the huge losses suffered during the midterm elections were not either a messaging problem or that people just aren't seeing the benefits of all this wonderful legislation.

The Heritage Foundation has picked up on something very interesting. The National Election Pool, which is comprised of all the major media networks who get together to come up with Exit Poll questions, have typically asked, "Are you currently married?" Well, not this time. Instead, the categories say "men with children" or "women with children/."
