Bob Barr to Brody File: McCain is a “Big Government Republican”

07-08-2008

In a sit down interview with Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr he tells me that John McCain is a big government conservative who’s not in touch with true Republican values. Watch the answer above. Part of the transcription is below.

“You have an awful lot of disaffected Republicans, disaffected conservatives that believe correctly that Senator McCain does not reflect the values that used to really be the bedrock principles and values of the Republican Party.”

“Senator McCain, of course the author of McCain/Feingold is anything but a small government conservative. He’s basically a big government Republican and that in fact has alienated a lot of conservative and libertarian leaning republicans. These folks are not going to vote for McCain. We hope to have them vote for Bob Barr.”

Look it’s pretty clear Bob Barr is going to take some votes away from McCain. In a close election, especially in swing states it has to be a concern.
