Pro-Life Video Against Health Care "Abortion Mandate"

With cries of "Stand for the Unborn", pro-life leaders have put together a pretty compelling video against President Obama's health care reform initiative. It centers on their efforts to stop what they say is the "abortion mandate" in the current health care bills.

Call it scare tactics if you like but these folks are very seious about this. They don't trust liberal Democrats and this White House at all on the abortion issue when it comes to health care. Watch it below

Let me say this. The White House wants to talk about the need to reduce abortions. Common sense dictates that if you're seriously interested in engaging conservative Evangelicals on this issue and if you want to build a little moderate "street cred", then why wouldn't you call for language in the bill explicitely saying abortions won't be covered? I know that question is rhetorical in nature. Planned Parenthood and the pro-choicers would revolt and the President has pretty much indicated in the past that abortions are part of 'reproductive care" so nobody is holding their breath for this to happen. But I'm just asking the obvious question.

Here's part of the release for the "Stop the Abortion Mandate Coalition":

Sixteen pro-life leaders are featured in the 90-second video urging Americans to realize the urgency of the current healthcare proposal and that it is biggest threat to the expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

“The video is a powerful display of unity and urgency within the pro-life and pro-family movement against the President’s healthcare bill,” said Kristan Hawkins, executive director of Students for Life of America and a member of the STAM coalition. “Whether or not they are pro-life or pro-choice, Americans do not want to be forced to pay for abortions, which is exactly what Obama’s healthcare plan does.”

Stop the Abortion Mandate coalition is urging its members to contact their elected officials, attend Townhall meetings to ask if their representative supports taxpayer funded abortion and make their voices heard on this important issue.

“For us, this isn’t a political fight, it isn’t only a fight over a massive national debt or a government takeover of healthcare,” says Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, in the video.

“What we’re talking about is life & death,” says Dr. Gene Rudd of the Christian Medical Association, in the video.
