In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, Ted Cruz admits that when it comes to biblical tithing, he’s fallen short at times. “I will readily admit that I have not been as faithful in this aspect of my walk as I should have been.” The Brody File asked the question about tithing after an article came out showing he tied far less than the ten percent the Bible commands. An outside political group is using that information in a radio attack ad against him in Iowa. “That article focuses on ten years. We don’t have the ability to go back and change what occurred ten years ago when Heidi and I were newly married and we’d just started a family. But at the end of the day, being a Christian is not about holding yourself out as righteous. It’s about beginning with the understanding that we are flawed sinners and we are saved not by deeds but by Christ’s redemption. I am grateful that God is a patient and forgiving God and this area, as in many areas of my life I am working to do a better job walking in my faith”

Our interview with Cruz took place Monday night in Des Moines Iowa. The Brody File crew was allowed exclusive access inside Cruz’s private meeting with Iowa pastors in both Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. This interview was conducted between events.

Both Trump and Cruz want to win Iowa but for Cruz it’s more imperative based on the large evangelical voting constituency. His campaign has more than a solid ground game, employing a robust micro-targeting strategy as well as having pastors all over the state organized on caucus night to get their congregants out to vote. He’ll need every single one of them to pull it out because Trump is a force in American politics.

Ted Cruz:  “It should be no surprise that there are political candidates, other candidates that are running against me in this race who are launching attacks. That’s what happens in a political campaign.”

Ted Cruz: “Listen on the question of tithing, all of us are on a faith journey, and I will readily admit that I have not been as faithful in this aspect of my walk as I should have been”
