Let’s start with this: the GOP establishment doesn’t like Ted Cruz and the rock-ribbed conservative presidential candidate wears that as a badge of honor. They are now FINALLY coming on board in a reluctant manner but that’s only because they can’t stand Donald Trump. Deep down, they truly question whether Cruz can beat Hillary Clinton in a General Election. Some have been outspoken about it like former HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson who said recently, “I think a vote for Ted Cruz is actually a vote for Hillary Clinton. I don’t think Ted Cruz could beat Hillary Clinton.” Senator Jeff Flake says, "I think it would be a disaster for us…I'm concerned that we need to expand the Republican Party.” There are plenty of others who are whispering the same thing at DC cocktail parties.
Look folks, has anybody checked the polls? The Real Clear Politics average shows Clinton narrowly beating Cruz (2.9%), well within the margin of error. And newsflash: the email server and Benghazi controversies haven’t even been brought up. There’s no doubt Ted Cruz can win a General Election against Clinton. Throw in the fact that he’s a much better debater than her (though she’s formidable) and you have the recipe for a GOP victory in the fall.
