McCain Advisor has Warning for Giuliani Campaign

01-18-2008

A Senior Campaign Advisor to John McCain tells The Brody File that the Giuliani campaign will be in big trouble if their candidate John McCain wins South Carolina. The thinking by the campaign is McCain's momentum will be too hard to stop as he rolls into Florida. Of course, Giuliani is banking on the Sunshine State to be his comeback into the race. Read below as this advisor talks about Giuliani's Florida problem:

"It seems to me that they are not very organized despite it being their firewall state. We feel that we are incredibly well positioned. In South Carolina, we think that the military vote is very important to put us over the top. We roll into Florida with the momentum. The electability thing is key. John McCain is now leading in New Jersey which is essentially the backyard of Rudy Giuliani. That says a lot about how electable he is on February 5th. We know that no candidate, Republican or Democrat, is going to have the resources to compete on TV or the radio in every February 5th state so it comes down to a contest of name ID. And in that case, John McCain has phenomenal name ID as does Rudy Giuliani but John McCain will have the momentum because he will have won South Carolina and I think that's very tough to stop. We feel our path to victory is very solid."

There's no doubt that the Giuliani campaign would much rather see Huckabee win South Carolina than McCain. McCain can compete on the electability issue and has a moderate streak just like Giuliani. The question is will Giuliani go after McCain and if so, on what exactly? Giuliani has his skeletons too. It's a risky strategy. As we like to say in politics, the situation is "fluid"
