Is Giuliani a Hybrid?

01-26-2008

Rudy Giuliani is out there on the campaign trail making the case that if Republicans want a leader and a manager, then he's the man. Read Giuliani's comments from the Sarasota County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner:

"I've been listening today to some of my opponents attacking each other. Governor Romney is attacking Senator McCain for being a Washington insider with not enough expertise and understanding in economic matters. And Senator McCain is attacking Mitt Romney for being a manager, not a leader, and lacking experience in foreign policy and national security matters. The choice is clear. Floridians deserve someone who has been tested and proven in both areas, and that's me.

"I'm the tested one because I've faced both economic and security issues. I've tackled a city in economic turmoil, turning around the seventeenth-largest economy. I did it by cutting taxes 23 times, creating jobs, slashing out of control spending and cutting unemployment in half. When Mitt and John were faced with the choice of lower taxes or higher taxes, they each chose higher taxes. There's a fundamental difference in how we look at a growth economy.

"I've also had the safety and security of millions of people on my shoulders. I know what it means to carry that responsibility and to face acts of terrorism.

"So I say to the Republicans in Florida, vote for me because I'm the candidate that when it comes to tackling these biggest challenges, has had experience, has been tested, and has had results in both areas. You don't have to choose one or the other, if you choose me you can have both"

The media has started to cast Florida as a two man race between McCain and Romney. To me it looks like a three person race and remember; don't ever count a "New Yorker" out. New Yorkers like to fight.
