Planned Parenthood Pres. Enters The Brody File

03-19-2009

CBNNews.com - Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, sat down for a one-on-one with The Brody File to talk about the need to reduce abortions in the country.

My five minute focus report will air next Thursday on The 700 Club. The piece centers on President Obama’s promise to look at how abortions can be reduced in America. Some religious groups are tackling the issue head on. Cecile Richards was gracious enough to be part of the story.

Also in the story will be Melody Barnes from the White House, pro-life Congressman Chris Smith, Wendy Wright with Concerned Women for America, Jim Wallis with Sojourners and a key group of religious leaders who meet every week to discuss the need to reduce abortions. It should be a real good, meaty story. As a matter of fact, heck, maybe I’ll win an award for it! I see myself in the role of Sally Field. Click here to see what I mean.

Sorry I digress. As for Cecile Richards, I asked her whether she was concerned at all about whether The White House may forgo abortion coverage in a national healthcare plan if it becomes too toxic. Watch her full answer above. A small partial transcription is below:

Richards: “This is a big complex issue and I think there’s going to be all kinds of work done over the next several months…We are very focused on making sure that family planning services are covered in any kind of healthcare reform because for women it’s basic fundamental healthcare.”

Brody: I was wondering if you were concerned that the Obama administration would potentially dump that portion if it’s going to become too controversial or too toxic?

Richards: Look, we’ll see, I think we’re in the early stages of these conversations and we would like women’s full reproductive healthcare covered in any kind of healthcare reform.”

By the way, a couple more clips from the interview will be posted later this afternoon.
