Warning: If you're a Democrat, sit down before you read this. The following is from today's New York Times:
Stuart Rothenberg, a political analyst who follows Congressional races, said a report he will release Monday will count 58 Democratic House seats in play, up from 47 in December. The number of Republican seats in play has held at 14 in that period, he said. And Democrats expect more of their incumbents to retire, which could put additional seats at risk.
If Republicans pick up 40 House seats they win back the House and you know what that means right? The Obama agenda is pretty much DOA. He'll have to scale his plans back bigtime.
November 2010 could turn into a debacle for Democrats if they don't play this thing right. President Obama and House and Senate Democratic leadership will now try and recalibrate but is it already too late? Has the big government, ineffective leadership narrative already been defined? We'll see.
