Brody File Video Exclusive: Scott Walker And Wife On Same Page When It Comes To Views On Traditional Marriage

07-19-2015

In an exclusive interview with The Brody File aboard his campaign bus in Iowa, GOP presidential candidate Scott Walker says media reports that suggest he and his wife feel differently about gay marriage are not true. “My wife actually supports my position,” Walker says about his support for traditional marriage. “She pointed out she was torn by the fact that she’s got me with a position and she’s got others family members in different position, but being emotionally torn doesn’t mean that she’s got a difference of opinion.”

Watch the clip below along with a transcription. The Brody File spent the day covering Walker’s events in Cedar Rapids Iowa and Urbandale Iowa. Our crew spent some time with him and his family on their campaign Winnebago between the two cities. The Brody File’s national piece on Scott Walker can be seen tomorrow (Monday) on The 700 Club. Go to the ABC Family Channel at 10am and it repeats again at 11pm.

David Brody: "There are some evangelicals that come to me, you probably know what I’m going to ask you about, as it relates to the marriage issue, and I know there’s not necessarily agreement with all the family members.  Can you talk to evangelicals about that because what I’m hearing is that they’re a bit concerned that if the family doesn’t stick together on the issue that either you might bend or that there is some fracture there? “

Scott Walker: "Well a couple different things in that.  First off:  some in the media, not you, but others have, I think misstated my wife’s position.  There are some family members who have extended family who have different views on this, but my wife actually supports my position so that’s something.  She pointed out she was torn by the fact that she’s got me with a position and she’s got others family members in different position, but being emotionally torn doesn’t mean that she’s got a difference of opinion.  Now, others in our family do have a difference, but again, I point to anyone, not just to an evangelical audience, to anyone and say look at my record.  If I was going to be pushed on this, I would have been pushed a long time ago and when it’s this or the fact that for example on right to life, I showed up long before I was involved in the world of politics and government as the president of Marquette Students for Life back in college. I’ve got a solid record in legislature as a county executive, now as a governor being 100 percent pro-life because that’s who I am, that’s how I was raised, that’s what I believe so whether it’s on marriage, whether it’s on right to life, whether it’s on strengthening and supporting families in this country, or any other issue, taxes, you name it.  I think what most people have found is, if 100 thousand protestors can’t get me to back away from my core principles, certainly there isn’t anything else that’s going to do that.”
