Dutch Anti-Koran Film "Fitna" is Released

03-27-2008

Warm up the fire trucks. Dutch politician Geert Wilders has released his controversial short film, "Fitna" on the internet. At the time of this writing, the LiveLeak.com site hosting the film was crashing, presumably from too much traffic. The English version is here. The link has had moments when it stopped working.

I was also able to view the film at this site, if you have trouble with the Live Leak site.

Be warned that the film contains some extremely troubling and gory scenes from various Islamic acts of terror: 911, beheadings, etc.

We now await the Muslim reaction.

The Dutch government reportedly went into a crisis session after the announcement that the film was on the internet. Some nations like Iran have threatened the Netherlands with diplomatic damage if the film was released. And the Dutch government, which has protected all manner of profane insulting speech in the past,  has been fighting this film tooth and nail, seeing it as a needless provocation of Muslims. The last time an anti-Muslim film like this was released in the Netherlands, the director of "Submission," Theo Van Gogh, was murdered by a Dutch Muslim.

When a colleague heard of the film's release, he quipped: "Let the riots commence."
