The story of Dr. Randy Christensen who specializes in providing medical care for homeless teenagers and the double miracle experienced by the Pierre family during the birth of their last child.

Transcript

I was out here with some kids, and we came across a dead body not too far away here. They're the hidden homeless. You'd probably have a difficult time picking them out. Thousands of teens living on and off the streets. You can kind of see one of the holes that some of the teens have slept in. How one man is giving these kids a chance, on today's 700 Club. My name is Dr. Randy Christensen, and I have the best job in the world. Well, welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to this edition of The 700 Club. People are asking, is al Qaeda going to strike back because of the death of their leader Osama bin Laden? Well, major American cities have stayed on a high terror alert since Osama's death. But the Islamic terrorist threat against America is far from over. In fact, Pat, some officials actually believe that al Qaeda may be shifting to smaller targets and that homegrown jihad may be the next wave to hit the United States. Erick Stakelbeck has that story. When a team of US Navy Seals eliminated Osama bin Laden earlier this month, they uncovered a treasure trove of intelligence from the terror kingpin's Pakistan lair. It showed that bin Laden urged his followers to target not just major cities like New York, but also smaller American cities nationwide. He also encouraged strikes against trains as well as airplanes. The counter-terrorism community is now clearly looking at the mid-sized operations as they were designed and called for by bin Laden in his captured information, are the future for al Qaeda and the jihadist movement in America. Terrorism expert Walid Phares is author of the book Future Jihad. He says the terrorists who carry out these new attacks could very well be born and bred in the USA and have no direct ties to al Qaeda. The other non-connected jihadists, the lone wolf jihadists, who are connected ideologically, but not organizationally, these are the most dangerous, because we have no way to detect them before they are detectable, before they make their intentions known and start to act. Terrorism arrests made since bin Laden's death already include two New York Muslims charged with plotting to attack synagogues and two imams from a pair of Miami mosques charged with supporting the Pakistani Taliban. Erick Stakelbeck, CBN News, Washington. Well, Erick is with us now from Washington. And Erick, I want to congratulate you on this book, The Terrorist Next Door. It's a tremendous read and has some marvelous facts in there that most people don't know. So I hope a lot of people are getting it for you. Pat, thanks so much. It's doing very well. Thank you, and thanks to CBN for letting me get the message out. Well, it's my pleasure. Well, you're right that al Qaeda's new blueprint for America is chip away strategy. Do you want to tell us what you meant by that? Yes, Pat. Think of Fort Hood. Think of the underwear bomber last Christmas Day. Think of the Times Square bomber. Smaller scale, self starters, low tech, inexpensive, this is the new blueprint for American soil. It doesn't take a genius to walk into a shopping mall, yell Allah-Akbar, and start firing. This is the new blueprint that al Qaeda's hierarchy has endorsed. Think of the threat level in Israel, Pat, where shopping malls, buses are constant targets. Are we ready for that here in America? That's a big question. I don't think we are. Well, Erick, I hate to put it in terms of finances, but that's going to cost a fortune to defend against that. Yes, Pat, it absolutely will. And I call this the "chip away strategy," Pat, because if you have a sustained effort of these smaller scale attacks carried out with great frequency—imagine a Fort Hood, a Times Square every week. It would bleed this country economically and also have a great psychological effect. And al Qaeda thinks it could be a very effective strategy. Two imams were arrested over the week in Miami. Can you tell us what's going on in some of America's mosques? Pat, here are two numbers for you before I get into that real quick. In 2001, we had 1,200 mosques in the United States. Now, 10 years later, that number has nearly doubled. There are over 2,000 mosques in America. That's astounding in only a decade. Another number for you, Pat, some 80 percent, credible estimates say that some 80 percent of all American mosques have Saudi funding behind them. This Miami case that you mentioned, two imams, these weren't just average worshippers at the mosque, Pat. These were two mosque leaders. And I've been in mosques, Pat, from coast to coast in America, also in Europe. And I can tell you, a lot of these imams don't recognize Israel's right to exist. And they won't condemn Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist groups. And if you look at the literature in these mosques, Pat, it's from Saudi Arabia, directly from Saudi Arabia, also Muslim Brotherhood tied groups. We have a big problem here. We keep acting like the Saudis are our friends, but they are controlled by the Wahabis. What are we going to do about it? Because we want their oil. And it's been this deal that's gone on for decades. And Pat, you said it. We're playing this game with Saudi Arabia because of oil. And look, Saudi Arabia is the epicenter of this global jihadist movement. They have spent billions and billions, Pat, over the past few decades to spread Wahhabism around the globe, including here in America and Europe where they construct hundreds of mosques. Eighty percent, Pat, of all American mosques, Saudi funding behind them. That's an unbelievable number. And it's vicious ideology. It's not just some worshipful thing, "Let's serve Allah." It's, "Let's kill America," isn't it? Wahhabism, which originated in Saudi Arabia, is the brand of Islam practiced by the likes of al Qaeda, Pat. And that says it all. There is no room in Saudi Wahhabism for Christians, for Jews, for polytheism. You're not allowed to have a Bible in Saudi Arabia. You can't wear a cross around your neck. There are no synagogues, no churches in Saudi Arabia, yet they're allowed to build hundreds and hundreds of mosques here in the West. One last question. They've named an Egyptian as a replacement to the deposed, to the dead leader. What do you think? Is this guy somebody you know about? Reports are saying that the new leader of al Qaeda, Pat, is a guy named Saif al-Adel, at least a temporary leader. Now he is an Egyptian. Interestingly enough, he was a member of Egypt's Special Forces, a long time al Qaeda guy for the past two decades, involved in a lot of major attacks, very well plugged in, Pat. But the most interesting thing about al-Adel, is he spent time in Iran, several years in Iran, after 9/11. It's unclear whether he was under house arrest there or if he was collaborating with the Iranians. But I think we're going to see that al Qaeda-Iran link become more and more pronounced now that bin Laden is dead. And a lot more information is going to come out about that. Erick, thank you very much. Thank you, Pat. And ladies and gentlemen, Erick's book, The Terrorist Next Door. You really ought to get a copy of it. It's a terrific read. Have you read it? I have not read it. I don't even have a copy. Well, you have one now. Well, thank you very much. Thank you. All right. Well, Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. Pat, the Senate rejects a bill that would cut two billion dollars a year in tax breaks for the five largest oil companies. The bill was the Democrats' response to high gas prices, but many Republicans and some Democrats argue that such a move would only drive prices higher. And they believe it would hurt domestic drilling. Democrats say they will revive the measure, though, as part of the deficit reduction plan being negotiated by Republican lawmakers and the Obama Administration. Pat. Lee, I think we've got to say, I don't have any brief for these gigantic oil companies. They're making a huge amount of money. But at the same time, it costs a huge amount of money to drill for oil. And if we want oil, domestic production of oil, we've got to be able to let them have the money to spend to drill it. We now are the Saudi Arabia of shale. We have shale gas coming out of the gazoo. And it costs a lot of money to do horizontal fracking of those wells. They can produce a lot of gas and a lot of oil. But it costs a lot of money to do that. Think for every well maybe three and a half million, four million, five million dollars. And you go out into the deep water and you're talking about 250 million or so to drill one of those wells. And if they come up dry, you've lost your money. It isn't all a piece of cake. The rewards are tremendous if you hit. But those that don't hit, it's very painful. So to punish them at this particular time is insane. And that was an initiative of the Obama Administration, one more anti-business move of the president. Lee. South Carolina is the latest state to propose a bill that would allow gold and silver coins to be used as legal tender. More than a dozen other states are considering similar moves. Utah started the trend earlier this month when it recognized gold and silver coins minted by the US government as money. Rising inflation and the nation's weak economy is leading to the new focus on gold. Tea Party leaders and conservative economists say using gold would help restrain government spending and keep the Central Bank's power in check. You might receive some health benefits to that morning cup of coffee. Harvard researchers discovered men who drank six cups a day reduced their risk of developing prostate cancer by 60 percent. And a new study out of Sweden indicates women who drink five cups a day lower their risk of developing an especially aggressive form of breast cancer. Both studies suggest coffee contains hundreds of potent antioxidants. But there are downsides. Coffee still causes the jitters, heart palpitations, and insomnia, especially, Pat, when you're drinking five and six cups a day. I don't know which is worse, having prostate cancer or being like "this" all day long. But let me recommend tea. Tea has marvelous properties. You just don't want to put milk in your tea, because that kills some of the good stuff. But tea is good. You want to say something. No, I was just listening to your commentary. And I agree. I'm not really a coffee drinker. I'm a tea type of gal, yes, because it's the whole jittery thing. There you go, cheers. Cheers. Lee. Pat, the Obama Administration plans to honor schools that teach environmental literacy. CNS News reports that about 50 schools will be selected as so-called "green ribbon" schools. A Department of Education spokeswoman says the program will recognize schools for engaging students on environmental issues and producing environmentally literate students, increasing energy efficiency, and using renewable energy technologies, and creating healthy learning environments by addressing environmental issues in the schools. The winning schools will be named on Earth Day next year. Meantime, Pat, we have noted historians like David McCullough who decried the fact that our students are historically illiterate. They certainly are, but they'll be citizens of the New World Order. Kristi has more. I do have more. Well, up next, like father, like daughter, Squawk Box host Joe Kernen and his 11-year-old daughter, Blake. They sound off together after this. Coming up later . . . . . . . . a pregnancy goes wrong. Well, school is wrapping up across the country and parents are trying to figure out what to do with their kids now that they're home. It's a perfect time for parents to talk with their children about what they're learning in the classroom. CNBC's Squawk Box host Joe Kernen did just that, and what he found may shock you. Since 2008, America has been fighting its way out of the worst economy since the Great Depression. This perfect economic storm made for easy fodder for commentator and former stock broker Joe Kernen. The co-anchor of CNBC's Squawk Box built a 20-year career off his political rants, from bogus Federal Reserve policies, health care reform, and global warming to media biases towards capitalism. But it was when his nine-year-old daughter Blake started spouting anti-capitalist views at home that he truly became concerned. In his book, Your Teacher Said What?!, the MIT grad recounts his shock when he discovered what his child was and was not learning about capitalism in school and the challenges he faced re-teaching her the value of a free-market society. Well, Joe Kernen and his daughter Blake are with us now from the CNBC studios. And Joe, what are the most outrageous things that Blake learned in school? Name a couple. You set this up really well, Pat, in saying its things that they have taught her and things that they haven't taught her. I guess probably the one thing that I would say I wish we could tweak a little bit from what she learned is that all this prosperity that we have is a result of American exceptionalism and the American way. And that also includes our Democratic form of government, along with our free market system and our emphasis on capitalism. I guess after the crisis, I heard a lot about business being at fault from her, about Wall Street being at fault, but other things as well. We had a really important election here for governor in New Jersey. And there were mock elections at the school with Blake and her brother. And you can imagine how Chris Christie was characterized in New Jersey versus John Corzine. Or going back a couple of years when President Bush was still in office. The attitude that I would hear from Blake that she'd either get from her classmates, and that could come from their parents. It's not necessarily from the teachers. But the difference now that President Obama is in office, it's a far cry from the kind of things that she used to come with about George Bush. It's beyond that, too, little debating assignments about factories that spew smoke into the air. The environmentalists would like to stop it, but the businesses say, "No, no, that would hurt our profits." But just the way that the questions are loaded. But I guess it's really more of what they leave out. She knows what tenure is, but she's never heard of the American way or American exceptionalism. Well, Blake, let me ask you, you came home and shocked your daddy? What triggered—you all got a book now, Your Teacher Said What?! What set him off on this? Well, what set it off was that I was coming home and I know that Daddy liked Chris Christie and George Bush. But I was hearing mean things at school about both of them. And I asked him why. And then he said, "Why are you hearing all of this?" And eventually he asked me to look through the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, or write down words that I knew. And I did, and I noticed that some people do think Chris Christie and George Bush were bad. What about capitalism? Oh, yes, Capitalism, people were saying very mean things about capitalism. And my dad just wouldn't have it. Blake, what were they saying? What were they saying about George Bush and Chris Christie? Well, they said, "Chris Christie might mess up New Jersey. We're going to go broke." Well, once they said, "Who is one of your leaders?" And I said, "George Bush." And then later somebody asked me, "Is that the guy who screwed up America?" I love George Bush and I love Chris Christie. I was sad when they said that. Do you argue with your teachers? Do I like my teachers? No, do you argue with them? Oh. No, no, because they teach me a bunch of great things. I don't argue with my teachers. I love my teachers. Oh, you love your teachers? That's the thing to point out, Pat. Yes. It's not an indictment on teachers, per se. It's more of a defense of capitalism. I want her to know that if she decides that she wants to start a business, has a great idea, and if she wants to make a lot of money and have a great life, I want her to know that's okay and that she could maybe hire 10 people or 100 people or provide jobs. I want her to know that a life spent chasing the American dream, you don't have to go into community service or be a social worker like we hear sometimes from certain segments of the Obama Administration, that that's somehow more virtuous. I think that's what has made this country great and generated more prosperity than any country in the history of world has ever had. Joe, you had the best description of the invisible hand taken from your daughter's shoelaces. Can you expound on that a little bit? I thought it was terrific. Yes. And that's one thing, Pat, she's gotten a lot out of it, but some of the concepts are a little bit hard to explain. But Blake, you really do understand that if you take the hundred smartest people in the world and you give them a hundred supercomputers, they're still not going to know what to make, how much to make, what to use, what stores are going to need it, so that a million people or tens of millions of people acting on their own, actually their own self interest on each side of a transaction, and that's how we decide on what the price should be. And Pat, there's an example in there about Blake getting a net for your aquarium, for your puffer fish. Yes. But I would like to say that because there are more than 100 people in the world and those 100 people are not—there are only 100 types of people in the world. They're all going to want different things. And through personal experience, you will know how many of those things to make and how many to sell. Right. But you initially thought it was the president or some smart guy in Washington that decided whether your shoelaces were going to be yellow or red or brown. Is that what you thought initially? Some smart guy or the president, on how to do it. This was Scott's chapter, and Scott said, and Joe said, "Who decides what to buy and sell?" And Scott says, "The richest man in the world?" The president or the richest man in the world. That was really cute. You can imagine, Pat, that my son, who is nine, has seen a lot of this. So we devoted one chapter. He got his chapter. In fact, he's going to have to get the next book, I think. If there is a Your Teacher Said What?! 2, we'll do it with Scott. But those were actual quotes from him. He thought it was the smartest guy in the world that decided how to make his shoelaces. What about the whole concept of progressives? You talk about progressives and many people in this audience don't know what progressives are. It sounds like kind of a nice thing. It does, doesn't it? And we point out that there was a time when progressives were associated with some noble things, the civil rights movement or women's suffrage. But lately, don't you think, regressive I think is a better word. I was just reading something about; it was on the Huffington Post, which I have to monitor, Pat. I don't know if I'm even allowed to say those words on your show. But I was reading about how we need to return to growing our own food in our own backyard, return to this simpler time. Look how safe our food is. Look at the abundance of the food that we're able to produce now with technology. I just can't imagine that the progress that we've seen—any type of progress in the material world seems to be anathema to progressives. So I don't know why they're called progressives. I think regressives is a better word. Last question. Avatar pulled in probably two and a half billion dollars at the box office, and it was blatant propaganda. Is that what you found in Hollywood, that businesspeople and government leaders are kind of bad, especially CEOs? That was the most annoying movie to me for a lot of reasons. And we call it the Wall-E chapter, because Wall-E, if you saw it . . . . Wall-E economics. Wall-E economics. But Wall-E was a code name. There was a company called Buy N Large, which was a code name for Wal-Mart, which created a million jobs and has kept the CPI, the consumer price index, down for 10-15 years below what it would have been. Buy N Large in this movie destroyed the entire earth. The earth was decimated. There was only trash. That's all that was left. And people had to live in a spaceship. It was ridiculous. But with Avatar, same story; return to the Garden of Eden where humans and nature coexist or something, and that horrible human that looked like a cross between a pit bull and a vampire was representative of the human race and corporate greed, from what I can tell. Well, Blake, has this—go ahead. You can ask the question if you want. Sorry. But I was going to say, both those movies, they're beautiful, but they don't, they're anti-capitalism. And also Wal-Mart, Wall-E. That's why they called it Wall-E. They didn't want to call Buy N Large Wal-Mart. That would have been really bad. So they called Wall-E Wal-Mart. Well, I guess we can get lower prices there, and that's what their mantra is, get the budget, more low prices. Well, listen, thank you both for being with me. And ladies and gentlemen, I recommend it. This a fun book. And Joe and his daughter; Your Teacher Said What?! It's on sale wherever books are sold, and thank you both. And keep up the fight for the American way. Thank you. Thank you. And thank you very much. I really enjoyed this. It was great. Thank you, Mr. Robertson. It was great being on. You're terrific. God bless you. All right. Kristi, what's next? She's cute. Well, we have a packed show today, so we're going to switch gears. Coming up, a couple who actually lost one baby fear they're about to lose another. We knew from the first birth that we weren't going to play any games. We would rush to the hospital. Well, gold is on everybody's minds these days, and rightfully so, having risen in value dramatically since 2001. For years now, I've been singing the praises of one of the most recognized and trusted names in gold, Swiss America. They believe, like I do, that people need to know what's good about gold. Gold has withstood the test of time, and so has Swiss America. Now is the time to rediscover gold, because gold offers diversification, profit, potential, and best of all, privacy. Call or visit online now and ask for the Pat Boone DVD, and they will gladly rush out a copy along with other information about getting gold into your nest egg. Years later when Nancy had complications with another pregnancy, she and her husband feared the worst. Instead, they got a double miracle. Take a look. When we got together, we were really kind of focusing on our careers in the entertainment field. We really weren't thinking about family. Great things were happening for Eric and Nancy Pierre. They recently married, had a new baby on the way, and together gave their hearts to the Lord. Then one day everything changed, on the day their baby boy was due. I just started bleeding. I went to the bathroom and something popped. I remember when I went into the hospital, because Nancy was upstairs and my mother-in-law came downstairs to tell me that Nancy lost the baby. So, when I went upstairs and I saw the baby, I just started thanking Jesus for just being able to see the baby. My biggest fear was walking out of this hospital without a baby. And how would I explain this to people? I serve a risen Savior who does miracles, so how am I going to explain to them there is no baby? As time went by and they drew closer to the Lord . . . . This may have happened now, but you know what, it was for a reason. I don't know what the reason was, but I know it was for a reason. And we began to just heal. And people would just continue to encourage us. And before you know it, life was back to normal again. The next couple years not only did God heal their broken hearts, but God blessed them with more children. Several years later Nancy was pregnant again with their third child. It was about five o'clock in the morning and I felt like this heaviness in my stomach. It almost seemed like when I turned over my stomach turned over after. So we knew from the first birth that we weren't going to play any games. We would rush to the hospital. When I heard the doctor say we needed to go now, I immediately said to the Lord, "God, not again. Please. Lord, I can't go through this again." They rushed Nancy into the operating room and did an emergency C-section. They were doing everything simultaneously. They wheeled me out, stuck the IV in my arm, were giving me anesthesia. Everything was happening at the same time. They had to resuscitate the baby. The baby was actually dead, swimming in the blood for three minutes. Nancy's doctor, Nancy came in with placental abruption. Her placenta had basically started to remove itself from her uterus. This is dangerous to the baby because now the baby's oxygen supply starts to go down. This condition is also life threatening to the mother. The detached placenta causes severe hemorrhaging, which in turn causes vital organs to shut down. She was bleeding internally, and so that's where it became very scary, because they didn't know how to stop the bleeding. She was critical, 100 percent critical. I noticed that I kind of saw life leaving my body. I saw my fingers turning like a dark brown. It's like I was dying. I knew it, but I was so passive, that I couldn't react or respond or pray or do anything, but something was happening, and I was dying. I needed God to show up quick. And so I needed some people who knew how to pray and could tear down Heaven. Did you think you were going to lose your wife? (Reporting): Nancy was in a coma, and baby Pierre was monitored 24 hours a day. Both were in critical condition. (Interviewing): Was there a time where you didn't trust God, where you said, "Lord, I went through this already. I don't want to go through this again." I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone. She would call me every morning to encourage me, and I said, "It's hard for me to trust God during this situation, because I don't know what's going to happen. How do you trust God?" And she said, "Just bare everything to Him. Just share your heart with Him." How did you really feel at this time? "God, I need your peace. I need to have clarity of mind. I need you to show me what's going on in this situation. I don't know how to pray. I know I'm praising you. Is this enough, God? What else do you want from me? Are you breaking me down, God?" Friends and family prayed day and night for Nancy and her baby. We decided to go into Operation Prayer Warfare. I tied scripture around everything, just believing that those healing words would just penetrate the flesh. Her husband was there every night, praying and reading their Bibles. The level of faith in this family was just tremendous. When did things begin to turn? And when did you start to see God answering your prayers? I was walking back to the hospital, and it was late, about nine o'clock. And the Lord reminded me of a dream that Nancy had where she crushed a helicopter with her bare hands. What did that dream represent to you? What did it mean to you? Well, she knew that God was giving her strength, supernatural strength. That's the moment when I knew that Nancy was going to get better. After 11 days and around the clock prayer, Nancy woke up. They thought that I was going to be some vegetable or have some sort of issues, walking or thinking. No. God made me whole. Not only did He heal me, but He made me whole. I'm in my right mind. I had long-term and short-term memory. Only God can do that. See, man can do a little bit and sew you up, and maybe you'll be a little crooked, but God came in and He made me completely whole. In fact just three days after coming out of a coma. Nancy walked out of the hospital. Not one miracle. There were two miracles. God miraculously healed their baby girl as well. I think they evaluated her, like, up the wazoo, because they couldn't believe it. They basically kicked her out and said, "Your baby is more than normal. She is smart as a whip. Get her out of here. She doesn't need us." Today Nancy and Eric have four beautiful children, including their miracle baby Naomi, who is now a vivacious four-year-old. I have to tell everybody about the healing power of Jesus Christ. You have to understand that God is real. So if we really, really believe in the Word of God, and we believe what He says is true, then we won't have any problems trusting His heart for us. I love that story. I tell you what, I spent an entire day with Eric and Nancy and their just faith in God ministered to me, because God is a God of miracles. No matter what you're going through, no matter how big that mountain may seem, I tell you what, God not only says that you can jump over that mountain, He says you can move that mountain with faith, if you just believe in Him. She was going to die, wasn't she? The doctors thought she was going to die. The doctors thought the baby was going to die. She was in a coma for 11 days. And they said that if she did survive, she was going to be in a vegetative state. Same thing with the baby. Oh, man. Okay. And I tell you what, God reached down, touched them, and as she said, man can sew you up and make you crooked, but God can make you whole. Come on, now. All right. Let's talk about the wholeness miracle working power of God. All right. Do it. Chris from Washington had a lump appear on his neck just below the skull. It grew to the size of a golf ball and caused him constant pain. The doctors couldn't explain it and they didn't know how to treat it. Well, last month, Chris was watching The 700 Club. Pat Robertson, he had a word of knowledge that said this, "A neck muscle is popped out. Just put your hand on that growth right there, and it will go down to normal. You are completely healed. The pain is gone." Guess what happened? Chris did exactly that. He placed his fingers on the lump. It went completely away, along with the pain. It is simply amazing what God knows. He knows everything. What He will reveal to us and then what faith will do when you act on the word of God. Now, listen, it's time to pray. You've seen a story of a double miracle. You've heard that testimony. Kristi and I are going to join hands together. We're going to pray for you, so please join us. This can be the moment when God does something in your life. "Father, we thank you and praise you for the miracle baby and the miracle restoration. Thank you for this story of healing of this growth, of this popped muscle. Thank you for everything you're doing. There is nothing impossible with God." There's somebody who has a lesion on your lungs. It's not tuberculosis, but there is a lesion. And it's serious, and doctors don't exactly know what to do with it. Just put your hand on your chest wherever that part is, in the name of Jesus. Receive healing. Kristi. There's a person, you have a blind eye, literally. You cannot see out of this eye. You take your hand, and as the moment of faith of you placing your hand on that eye, you will be able to see in the name of Jesus. The Lord is doing a mighty miracle in your life. Just receive it. Somebody, your mouth is just full of sores. You're crying out to God. God has heard your prayer. In the name of Jesus, those sores are completely healed. We speak words of healing. Receive an answer. Thank you, Lord. Now for everyone in this audience, may the power of God touch you. May you know answers to your prayers. There is nothing impossible with the God we serve. In the name of Jesus, touch. Amen. Amen. Amen. Come on. You feel the power? Of course. I love the Lord. Don't you? And I love praying. And I just love to see what He does. Okay, I'm done. Your turn. All right. Make Kristi happy. Call in and tell us what God has done for you: 1-800-759-0700. You can get somebody to pray for you here all day long. They're here. They love you. We'll be back with questions. You've got some questions and stuff, and more on The 700 Club right after this. Coming up later . . . . . . . . they're hidden in plain sight . . . . Welcome back to The 700 Club. A bill restricting Kansas abortion clinics is now law. Starting July 1st, Kansas will require annual, unannounced inspections of abortion clinics. The state will impose new health and safety regulations and prevent abortion clinics from prescribing pregnancy-terminating drugs to patients over the phone. Critics of the new law say this could put the state's abortion clinics out of business. Supporters, though, say the changes are needed to protect patients. Supporters and opponents of a proposed ban on same-sex marriage rallied in North Carolina Tuesday. Thousands of Christian conservatives gathered outside the state's general assembly to support the ban. Several gay rights activists protested inside that building. The bill has been pushed repeatedly over the past eight years in North Carolina. But Republicans control the legislature for the first time in more than a century, so the ban has a better chance of getting on the ballot this time. It's not a right that they have. God designed marriage, one man, and one woman. That's it. North Carolina is the only southeastern state that has not approved an amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman. They're homeless teens, and they look like other teens, but they just don't live like them. Some of the kids sleep right out here. Sometimes it's violent. Sometimes it's tough to live in the summer heat of Arizona, which can be 118 degrees. Not too long ago, I was out here with some kids, and we came across a dead body not too far away here. He probably died from dehydration and from being out in the sun, from exposure. If you look over there, you can kind of see some clothes and maybe a little kind of out the way place. Down over here is another culvert with some clothes over here. And if you come up here, you can kind of see one of the holes that some of the teens have slept in. This is actually about five feet deep, and if you look in there, you can see some sleeping bags and some old clothes and some water bottles in there. So they actually crawl in there and sleep, try to escape the heat of the day, or heat of the night as it might be in Arizona. My name is Dr. Randy Christensen, and I have the best job in the world. I get to take care of homeless teens and children that live on the streets or in shelters or in cars or hotels. I've been doing this for about 10 years. My main office is a 38-foot RV. We call it a medical mobile unit. And it's a doctor's office on wheels. So a lot of people think that homeless teens look disheveled. They think they have rotting clothes; they have holes in their shoes. The truth is that most homeless teens look just like the other teens. They're dressed in similar concert shirts or they have similar shoes, and they have the same kind of haircut and same kind of look that any high school or college teen looks like. They just happen to be homeless. You probably have a difficult time picking them out. They tend to scatter when there are police officers around or when there are busy intersections. Unfortunately, we've seen a lot of increased demand for our services. We saw lots of people coming to us. We saw families becoming homeless that had never been homeless before. We saw more kids out there. The need was just starting to outweigh what people could provide. The goal for me has always been about ending the cycle of homelessness. That's really why I'm out here. I'd like to see that no kid has to live in a hole or in an alley or in a dumpster or in a shelter. I wish that all kids were seen for what they really are: worthwhile young adults that have a purpose in life and really can succeed when we give them that chance. Wow, absolutely incredible. Please welcome to The 700 Club the author of Ask Me Why I Hurt, Dr. Randy Christensen. Thank you so much, Doctor, for being here today. Well, thank you so much for having me. Well, I tell you what, this is a heavy topic. It's a surprising topic. When I was doing some research last night, there were two statistics that hit me like a brick in the face. One was that the average age of a homeless child is five, or 41 percent. That's a growing percent. And the other one of the average age of the homeless person is actually nine years old. Yes. Help me understand that. Unfortunately the fastest growing segment of the homeless population is young families. These economic times have taken a toll on them. And unfortunately we have a whole new generation of young families that are growing up homeless. Well, of course, the question is, where are the parents? How did these kids end up on their own? Where are the parents? A lot of the kids that are older, the teens, they become throwaways or runaways. Sometimes they're running from terrible situations, horrific tragedies that are in their past. Sometimes the families are trying to take care of all of the kids in the family, but many of the shelters don't allow teenage boys in their shelters. Okay, so you've done this for several years now. Has it been 10 plus years? Over 10 years. Tell me how you got involved. What was it that said, "I need to get out of my office and come out here to the streets." That goes back to my mom and my dad. They were just people that believed you've got to take care of your neighbors, that you go out and help your community. I grew up with a roof over my head, but my parents were poor. We were living paycheck to paycheck. We always felt the need to go out and take care of our neighbors. I can remember my mom collecting change to give to shelters and stuff. And thinking back, it was probably 35 dollars at the end of the year. But at least she felt she was doing something. Yes. Let's talk about the condition of these children. I know that you're a medical doctor, and I'm sure that you can give me an entire medical assessment. That's not what I'm asking, though. What about their heart? Who are these children? What are some of the issues that they're dealing with? Unfortunately, when you have some of the females that are out on the streets, within three or four days they're forced into sex. They're raped. They're brutalized. It's probably happening to a good number of the boys as well. They just aren't as ready to tell you that. So they've come from these horrific pasts, and yet they get up every day and they put on their shoes, and they go out and they get food. And I think of them as survivors. And when we're there to help them and give them a little guidance and a little mentorship, and sooner or later you start to see some of that success. And that's really what the book is about. The book is trying to say, "Listen, these kids are really worthwhile." And if you just give them a little bit of time and effort, then they do succeed. And you see wonderful, wonderful things happen. Well, let's talk about some of that. Like, I started out the interview with statistics, but these kids, they're not statistics. They're children. They're kids. They're somebody's babies. So give me a story. I think the most amazing thing that we've seen lately is some of these moms are getting out of the shelter, and they're going to nursing school. We now have 22 moms that were formerly homeless that are now in some sort of nursing school or respiratory therapy school. And it's just amazing. You see that they're going to do so well. They're going to take care of their kids. And for so long they've been told they are worthless and they were stupid and all of these things. And we stop and we say, "No, listen, you are really worth something. You can do it." And we tell them that, they start to believe it. We've got a health care career club, and we're moving in that direction. And we think that's really what keeps us going is those success stories. Well, speaking of success stories, there's one about a child named Nancy. Is that it? Mary. Mary. Mary. Sorry. Mary. Tell me about that story. It was one of the girls that I met on the van, and she came up, and we were talking and we were chatting, and it was a hot Arizona day. And I looked down, and she had a bracelet. And the bracelet said, "Ask me why I hurt." And it just sort of took me, that what kind of pain you would have to be able to wear that around with you on a day to day basis. And throughout the story, and throughout the book, you realize the horrible, tragic past that she's had, just abuse that you can't even imagine takes place in the present day. And she got over it, and she did well. And she moved on. And that's that reminder every day that I have to ask not only why she was hurting, but why other people were hurt, and allow others to ask me why I'm hurting and to open up and to be able to communicate the things that are happening on the streets to everybody else in the world. Yes. This is probably the most challenging question to answer, but I'm curious how you do it anyway. You see a lot of these kids, and, yes, they have a lot of physical issues because things done to them. But how do you express or share with them or even tell them what their value is, what their self worth is, who they are in God's eyes? How do you get that over to them to believe it? Almost every time that we see somebody, we walk in and we say, "We care about you. We really do care about you." And at first, they're sort of a little worried about that and the kind of unusual circumstances. Most of the people that they trust in the world have hurt them in some way. And we have to develop that relationship. We have to really talk with them all the time. And hopefully we're planting a seed and hopefully it's growing. Yes. Well, thank you so much for doing what you do. And I just pray that based upon this book and the interview that we can do things as well. When someone else is hurting, we've got to be there for them. Thank you so much. Thank you so much for being here. Dr. Randy's book is called Ask Me Why I Hurt. It's available wherever books are sold. Well, am I throwing it to Pat? I'm throwing it to Pat. Over to you. Well, Dr. Randy is certainly an inspiration to me. And to think of people in Arizona living in holes in the ground, teenagers, children, precious in God's sight. God bless you, Doctor. Many of them needed to rebuild their lives, but they had no way to do it, until they heard about an organization called Operation Blessing. When violence erupted after the 2008 election in Kenya, Gladys and her family left their home to find a safer place to live. We had nothing, and it was almost impossible to meet our family's needs. They spent almost everything they had on their son's school tuition. Gladys' husband is full-time medical student. He'll make a good living one day, but at the moment they were struggling. So they prayed they'd find a way to make ends meet. When we went to church, we heard about Operation Blessing. They gave me enough money to start my own business. Gladys started a poultry business selling chickens and eggs. Soon, she started growing vegetables to sell, too. From the sales, I'm able to provide for my family again. And the vegetables have really improved our diet. Thank you, Operation Blessing and CBN. One person at a time. All around the world people are hurting . . . . . . . . and we're out there helping them as much we're able. There is so much need, and the thing of it is, the need is so welcomed. You don't have to fight through spears or cannibals and that sort of thing to get to people who have needs. All over the world, they love us. They love Operation Blessing. They love what we're doing. And they say, "Just come over and help us." So if you want to be part of an army of thousands, just making a difference in people's lives, its 20 dollars a day—20 dollars a month. What am I saying? Sixty-five cents a day. Yes. Don't shock. If you want to give 20 dollars a day, that's still . . . . That's still good, too. Absolutely. But we'll send something called The Law of Expectation. And we've got something else coming up in a couple of days you don't want to miss. Boy, oh, boy. It's good. Yes. Have you seen it? Of course, I've seen it. Of course, you've seen it. Well, it's coming. But anyhow, for those of you who join The 700 Club, that's for you. Twenty dollars a month. You can change your world. The address is on the screen. It's CBN.com or you can call in: 1-800-759-0700. And it's time for e-mail. Questions. E-mail questions. I was thinking about the interview that we just did and the gentleman who had the bracelet that said, "Ask me why I hurt." The bottom line is there are so many hurting people out there, right here in America or wherever. We've got to be here for them. All right. The questions. Don writes in and says, "In this uncertain world, how can we prepare for bad times to come, Pat? Should we begin to store up a two or three month supply of things needed to survive?" What do you think? I don't think so much survival, but we could have a hurricane. You can have an earthquake. You can have a flood in the Mississippi River. And it doesn't hurt to have something, dry food, some flashlights, some batteries . . . . Water. Especially water. And a battery powered radio to find out what's going on. I think it's kind of an emergency kit for anybody. First aid kit, et cetera, because you never know when something bad can happen. But as far as storing up for the end times, I don't know. But I'll tell you one thing. The Bible says neither their silver nor their gold will deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath. When it starts to happen, it's going to be so bad that you just need to be covered by the Lord. But still, it doesn't hurt to have a little silver, a little gold, some soybeans or something hanging around. And an emergency kit with some water, too. And if you can afford it, boy, to have a generator. Yes. Ooh. I know. Do you have one? Oh, yes. Yes. I need to have one. Do you have an extra one? Can I borrow it? No. Sorry. You've got to get your own. All right. What else? All right, Kelley writes in and Kelley says, "Where does the heart reside in us in relation to the soul and the spirit? It is written, ‘Out of the abundance of the heart.' So what is the heart of man?" Well, I did a study on that. It's kind of hard. I was trying to hope the heart was the same thing as the spirit, but it's not quite. But the spirit is the part of us that is in touch with God. The soul is what happens when your body comes together with the spirit, and you become a living soul. Where does the heart reside? I think the heart is the seat of the emotions, the seat of the will, the motivation, that makes us tick. And the heart of man, the Bible says, is desperately wicked, deceitful and desperately wicked. So that heart needs to get changed. And we say, "I have Jesus in my heart." We're talking about the inner motivation that makes us tick. Well, tomorrow, we've got another teaching from The Secret Kingdom. This is the most important law for social interaction of people. And you can see how you can make it work for you. And today we leave you with these words from James . . . . . . . . "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: To visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." We'll see you tomorrow. Here at CBN, we see amazing things happen when we stand together. That's why we want to say thank you to the thousands of you . . . . . . . . who recently pledged to join the 700 Club. Jamal was filled with fear wondering about his future. Then he and his family found housing, food, and job training at a ministry supported by CBN. Jamal is now in college and his family is doing well because you cared. So please watch for this mailing and send in your pledge. This year millions will know . . . . The love and saving power of Jesus Christ. And that only happens, because you were there.
