Final Review for Great Themes of Theology II

Summary

In "Great Themes Of The Book 1," the first of a three-part study of Christian theology in the Living By The Book curriculum, you learned important foundational truths about God's nature, His sovereignty and providence in creation, and His redemptive plan for humanity. In this second installment, subtitled "Salvation, The Holy Spirit, and Christian Living," Dr. J. Rodman Williams continues to explore the theme of redemption. He shares biblical insights about the meaning of regeneration, justification, and sanctification. Through the study of these topics, you will appreciate more fully what salvation means and become more diligent in your pursuit of spiritual maturity. Dr. Williams also answers several perplexing questions about such issues as eternal security and predestination.

The central focus of "Great Themes Of The Book 2" is the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Because God is pouring out His Spirit afresh in our day, there is renewed interest in this little understood member of the Trinity. Who is He? What part does He play in salvation? What does it mean to be baptized in the Spirit? What are spiritual gifts, and what place do they have in the church today? Dr. Williams answers these and other questions in a way that is both biblically sound and academically informed.

A unique feature of the course is Dr. William's personal insights into the nature and activity of the Spirit. These reflect the knowledge He has gained as an international pioneer and leader in the charismatic movement since 1965. His experience of the supernatural reality of the Spirit - and of the human dimension of the Pentecostal/charismatic renewal - are both theologically penetrating and practically valuable. For the Christian seeking a deeper relationship with God, "Great Themes Of The Book 2" is an unparalleled guide to experiencing the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and to understanding and appropriating each of the nine spiritual gifts.

The climax of "Great Themes Of The Book 2" is a study of how to walk in the way of love. Love is the single greatest rule of Christian living and the principle that is to direct our use of spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are gifts of love, and they are given to empower us for witness and ministry. Upon completing this course, you will understand the biblical injunction "to be filled with the Spirit" (Eph. 5:18) as both a call to love God and neighbor and as an invitation to receive a glorious gift.
