ALERT: More African e-Fraud!

I am still amazed at how devious people are out there in cyberspace!

A few months ago, I posted a blog about how I was nearly drawn in by a scam.  Ever since, I have regularly received e-mails from people who have been drawn in by e-scams themselves.

Recently, I got an e-mail from "Cool Max" asking what could be done with people who have perpetrated fraud via e-mail. Well, Max, about the only thing you can do is report the fraudsters to the government.

(Click here to report dangerous "scam spam" and fraud to the U.S. Government's Federal Trade Commission.)

Also, make sure to keep up to date with the latest frauds out there.

For example, earlier this month, the U.S. Secret Service sent out a release about a bogus spam e-mail claiming to be from them. Here's what they say about the scam on their web site...

This scam appears to be a typical Advance Fee Fraud. The scam alleges that "You are among those whose fund will be repartraited [sic.] from Africa."

THIS E-MAIL IS A HOAX. DO NOT RESPOND.

The e-mail claims to be from the Secret Service's Financial Crimes Division. The e-mail/fax contains numerous typographical errors and the Secret Service would never ask for personal financial information via e-mail, phone or fax.

Take a look at my previous post about scams. You would be surprised at the amount of people who have e-mailed me about this topic!
