Ben Roethlisberger: Possible trade?

By Shawn Brown

Now that we are in the midst of the NFL Draft, there are lots of transactions taking place around the League. The one that stands out to me is the possible trade of Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He recently escaped criminal charges for the second time in two years for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman. In the last week he has met with NFL Commish Roger Goodell and has been placed on a six-game suspension. But the Steelers organization is a character-based organization and usually won’t put up with these types of distractions…even if it’s their star quarterback.

Let me give you a snap shot of how I see the situation: Here you have Big Ben coming in to the League in 2004 as a God-fearing young talent with PFG (Play For God) on his cleats. A lot of players I’ve spoken to have verified that Ben was sold out for Christ when he entered the League. What happened? Six years and a near-death experience (due to a motorcycle accident) later, he has two sexual assault allegations against him and the team that he won two Super Bowls with is considering trading him.  Here’s a guy, who has known about God since his high school years, about to lose all that he helped to build. Sounds to me like a classic case of the non-humble being humbled. I’m not judging, but I have to admit that in the past, anytime I’ve ever walked away from God I quickly realized I was on a road that leads to nowhere fast. How will this end for Ben? I have a feeling we’ll find out by the end of the NFL draft.
