New Book from Dalit Freedom Network's Joseph D'souza

Internationally-respected human rights advocate and Dalit Freedom Network President Dr. Joseph D'souza recently released his second book entitled On the Side of the Angels. The book, co-written by journalist and human rights activist Benedict Rogers, is a call for the universal Christian church to revitalize and expand the definition of the Christian mission to include human rights advocacy. The authors define human rights as "respecting and promoting the human dignity of our fellow men and women" (p.25).

The book includes well-researched accounts of atrocities in India, North Korea, and the country formerly known as Burma, as well as case studies of model Christian work in East Timor, Pakistan, Latin America and Nepal.

On the Side of the Angels is an inspiring call to action and an update on the global state of Christian persecution and oppression. Jon Foreman, lead vocalist of the band Switchfoot, concludes, "Joseph's words continue to pull all of us towards the only appropriate response, sounding the alarm for love in action."

Dr. D'souza will be touring the U.S. with the Dalit Freedom Network October 10-21, and November 4-14, 2007, and will be available for interviews at that time.

Dr. D'souza serves as international president of the Greenwood Village, CO-based Dalit Freedom Network (DFN) whose mission is to empower the Dalits (also knows as the "Untouchables") in their quest for religious freedom, social justice, and human dignity by mobilizing human, informational and financial resources. Dr. D'souza was instrumental in the creation of DFN in 2002; the 501(c)3 organization is based in Denver with additional offices in Canada, the UK, and Sweden and partners in over twenty-five nations.

Dr. Joseph D'souza is also founder and president of the All India Christian Council (AICC), India's largest ecumenical Christian organization. Established in 1998, the AICC is one of the largest interdenominational coalitions of Christians that deals with national and human rights issues.

In addition, Dr. D'souza serves as one of two vice presidents of Operation Mobilization (OM), an international movement that aims to transform lives and change communities by mobilizing and equipping people to share Christ's love and bring hope to the world.
