What About the 'Least of These,' Mrs. Pelosi?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggests adding birth control funding to the financial stimulus package.

Take a look at how she defended the idea to ABC's George Stephanopoulos on his This Week program Sunday:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

Shocked? We shouldn't be. Mrs. Pelosi unwittingly revealed how many liberals feel about those that Jesus referred to as "the least of these;" not just the unborn but those who they perceive would be a drain on society.

And you have to wonder if that's not an underlying reason why President Obama lifted the ban on federal funding of overseas "family planning," including abortion.
