Exclusive: Bobby Jindal Tells Brody File: Stop Hyphenated-American Titles

Gov. Bobby Jindal tells The Brody File that hyphenated American titles need to be a thing of the past.

"I don’t want to discriminate based on the color of one’s skin or race,” Jindal tells me. “One of the things we can all do is instead of calling ourselves hyphenated- Americans -- African-Americans, Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans, Asian-Americans…we are all Americans.”

The Brody File interviewed Jindal Friday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

My parents came to this country over 40 years ago and in many ways they were coming to an idea, not a place. The idea of freedom and opportunity. My mom loves her heritage. She loves her background. We can all be proud of where we’ve come from but my mom made it very clear to my brother and I as we were born here and as they raised us here…'We are raising you as Americans. If we wanted to raise you as Indians…we would have stayed in India.'
