Only On Brody File: Paul Ryan Says: "We can never give up on repealing and replacing Obamacare"
The Brody File has an excerpt from a speech that Congressman Paul Ryan will deliver via videotape to social conservatives in Washington Friday. He will tell those attending the Values Voter Summit that, “We need to completely rethink government’s role in our live. That means we can never give up on repealing and replacing Obamacare.”

“My colleagues and I are working to get a budget agreement. It’s been slow going, but I want to make the most of this moment. We have an opportunity here to pay down the national debt and jump-start the economy. Divided government is frustrating. But our country is worth the effort. We have to make it work. Now, this President won’t agree to everything we need to do. A budget agreement—with this President and this Senate—won’t solve our problems. But I hope it’s a start. I hope we can get a down payment on the debt. . . .
“The way I see it, our job is to preserve our values in the 21st century. We need to apply our principles to the challenges of today. That means we need to completely rethink government’s role in our lives. We need to completely rethink government’s role in helping the most vulnerable. We need to completely rethink of government’s role in health care. That means we can never give up on repealing and replacing Obamacare. So I want to ask for your help as we work to renew our country. We need more people like you to get involved—to revive our communities. Because—trust me—the answer isn’t in Washington. It’s in the people of this country.”
Congressman Ryan, along with Speaker Boehner and GOP Leadership needs to be careful how they sell this potential budget negotiation to the constitutional conservative members of the House. If it looks like they are punting on Obamacare, then they’ve got problems. Ryan calls Obamacare an entitlement so when he talks about how entitlements need to be changed, he’s lumping Obamacare in with Social Security, Medicare, etc. That’s fine. But the proof is in the pudding right? Will Obamacare really be up for negotiation or will it be tossed aside and deemed too problematic? We wait and see.
